Sunsetting t3rn Testnet V1
Sunsetting t3rn Testnet V1
We hit a few bumps along the way, but we can confidently say the t3rn testnet launch was a success, and that’s all thanks to you: our community, Executors, and testers who provided invaluable feedback. As we gear up for the next phase, here’s the lowdown on winding down our first testnet iteration and getting ready for Testnet V2.
Easing Out of Testnet V1.
As many of our community have noticed, over the past few weeks, we’ve been gradually increasing the minimum swap amounts. This has been done to manage the surge in testnet activity, which continued hitting record highs even after previous adjustments, while testing the t3rn network under different conditions.
This approach has allowed us to maintain the tesnet in a live environment while implementing necessary updates. Now, with Testnet V1 coming to a close in seven days, we’re shifting focus to the next phase. V1 of the t3rn testnet has been all about stress-testing the network, onboarding new users and Executors, and rewarding early participation. With the insights we have collected, we’re gearing up for major upgrades and improvements as we prepare for Testnet V2.
Why Now?
During the first iteration of the t3rn Testnet, we’ve collected technical insights and user feedback, helping us identify key areas for improvement as we refine the next version and get closer to mainnet. During this period, users provided valuable input that shaped our priorities for V2. Some of the most reported issues included:
Performance and Scalability: With execution volumes consistently breaking records, we've pinpointed optimizations to make cross-chain order processing even more efficient in the next phase.
Refund Handling: Users wanted faster and more transparent refund processing, leading us to introduce Claim All Refunds, which will be further optimized in V2.
Executor Experience: Many Executors highlighted challenges with claiming rewards, adjusting gas price thresholds, and troubleshooting execution errors.
UI Improvements: Users requested a clearer transaction history, better visibility into execution statuses, and a more intuitive BRN balance tracking system.
We put these insights front and center while building Testnet V2, aiming to make it smoother, more efficient, and transparent so that both users and Executors experience the benefits. We’re excited to take another step toward a stable, production-ready mainnet.
Reflecting on V1
Throughout this initial run, we saw an incredible turnout across the board in onchain activity, product engagement, and social initiatives all exceeded our projections. As a result we have built an active and supportive community that formed around the testnet, laying the groundwork for future growth.

FAQ
Why is Testnet V1 ending?
Testnet V1 was designed to stress-test the network, onboard users, and refine the protocol. We’ve achieved these goals, collected valuable insights, and are now shifting focus to upgrading smart contracts, refining the UI, and preparing for V2 and mainnet.
When is Testnet V1 ending?
Testnet V1 will officially close seven days after the announcement. This means that on 7th of February, transactions will no longer be processed.
What will happen to my BRN tokens after Testnet V1 closes?
Your BRN balance will remain visible in the UI, and your holdings are safe and will remain unchanged. No new transactions will be processed during the downtime, but you can still check your accumulated BRN. The BRN collected during this phase will be redeemable for TRN tokens at TGE.
Will BRN rewards continue in V2?
Yes, but with adjusted rules. We will introduce a new incentive model that focuses on higher-value transactions. The exact details will be shared before V2 launches.
Is there a cap on how much BRN I can hold?
Yes, there is a cap on BRN holdings: 20,000 BRN for bridge users and 40,000 BRN for Executors.
Can I still participate in t3rn campaigns during the testnet downtime?
Absolutely! Even though Testnet transactions will be paused, you can still earn BRN via community participation, content creation, and other social activities and be ready for TGE.
When is Testnet V2 going live?
Testnet V2 will roll out near the end of February, bringing key features that are essential for testing before we move to mainnet.
Looking Ahead: Testnet V2, Mainnet and TGE
Once Testnet V1 concludes, our team will focus on major protocol upgrades that haven’t been possible due to the increasing transaction volumes. During this period, we will:
Upgrade smart contracts to improve execution efficiency and scalability.
Audit and refine code to enhance security, optimize gas usage, and streamline order processing.
Polish the user interface to create a smoother, more intuitive experience.
Improve order queue handling to manage execution flow more effectively.
Expand network support, allowing the t3rn protocol to interact with more ecosystems.
Optimize performance and reliability, ensuring better transaction execution across chains.
This downtime is about preparing for Testnet V2, where we’ll introduce new features, improved execution incentives, and even more engagement opportunities.
Meanwhile, you can continue earning BRN through our community campaigns, including the MVP Rewards Program and upcoming initiatives that will be announced soon.
Stay tuned, Testnet V2 is shaping up to be even bigger and better!
Keep an eye on our Discord and X for updates on how to claim more BRN, and get early access to Testnet V2.
